Saida Waterfront

The Waterfront Island project was designed in collaboration with Columbia University and SOSI and was funded by MTC TOUCH. For the design development of the project, SNONO Architects, Ahmad Nouraldeen and Luca Fraccalvierri were solicited to develop Columbia’s preliminary design into a schematic and finally a developed design with the necessary tender documents to submit to the Municipality of Saida in order for them to conduct a bidding and select a contractor.

Rather than propose a top-down masterplan for Saida, students were asked to think of an Integrated Urban Strategy that considers the city as a whole, as a body, and not necessarily as different separate competing sectors. This line of thinking argues that if the city as a whole is resilient and healthy, if its environment and inhabitants are healthy, then all aspects of the city will prosper as a result, including its tourism and economy.
